To date, I have never seen a picture of the inside of Sandfield Tower when it was fully furnished. Only the black and white photograph on the front page gives a glimpse of what the building once looked like when it was being used. However, with the aid of SceneCaster, a new program dedicated to the ease of 3D design, I am now able to bring Sandfield Tower to life and show from the original plans that I have recently seen, what this building could look like in the near future. I have studied original plans of the building in detail and have now put my own finishing touches to the 3D rooms in the hope that Sandfield Tower can be viewed from the inside as a complete building. The pictures below will show the original real life scene and will show the newly created 3D design.

The above view shows the building in its abandoned state. Viewing from the back hall directly in to the front room of the building, we can see how large the room is, and how the building was built using brickwork on the inside. Viewing the 3D model, we now see the windows and furniture that has been put in to this room. Perhaps this was once the drawing room for visitors before they were welcomed in to other parts of the building. A large and spacious room with light from the three windows.

Visitors to the building today have to take care when crossing the entrance chamber, especially when there is an 8 foot drop in to the basement due to the lack of floor left in this space. The building, even from this area would have been a grand area to welcome guests in to the building. they would have the choice to go directly in to the Drawing room to the left or head futher along the hallway to the fireplace as seen below.Once at the fireplace, they could then turn left in to the Dining Room or head right to the stairs.

the staircase

The view to the right shows the hallway extending to the staircase and this view can be obtained by turning around from the above view to see the rest of the building. The lack of stairs in the property at the present time makes viewing the top floors of the building impossible but contemporary plans show that there were two further bedrooms in the roof space.

THE HOME OF JOSEPH EDWARDS

overview

My name is Jonathon Wild. I am a Local Historian based in South Liverpool. My first association with Sandfield Tower was by chance. Being stuck in a traffic jam a good few years back and only noticing the building at the side set back from the road. It was derelict back then too,but had a mystery about why it was left there in such a built up area and I had to find out more - and see inside! With help from the local Record Office, and past history of the area, I began to piece together the history of the building and the reasons for it now being empty. If you have information on Sandfield Tower (which has many names - Sandfield Tower, Sandfield - The Tower, Gwalia) then please contact me via the contact page.

A grand Grade II listed building set in the corner of Sandfield Park. Used as a private villa and later as a private church, it has extensive grounds outside the property, 3 large reception rooms, spacious entrance hall, 6 bedrooms with a further two attic rooms and a large tower rising through the centre of the building. A historical gem that needs to be preserved and protected!
